
The outspoken member of parliament for Kiharu Constituency Ndindi Nyoro has set a trailblazing record in implementing a post-COVID presidential directive by Uhuru Kenyatta. The president had urged members of Parliament to use the Constituency Development Fund( CDF) to expand the facilities in public schools in preparation for the return to normalcy for the education sector.
The government has come under sharp criticism after the cabinet secretary for Education, Prof George Magogha was quoted suggesting that children should learn under trees and other open spaces. This saw the internet awash with pictures of children learning in harsh conditions, including sitting on bare sand, under the scorching sun.
Across the borders, this was a contrast to which is said to have built over 22,000 classes, to enable the enforcement of the 1.5Metres social distancing directive. The Kenyan government had previously approved a budget of Ksh.2 Billion for local artisans to supply 650,000 locally assembled desks.
On 15th January 2021, the legislator traversed Mbiri and Mugoiri Wards checking on the progress of tiling and other projects in various schools in Kiharu. These schools included Muchungucha Secondary School, Ndutumi Primary School, Munyutha Primary, Gathiru Primary School, and Mwara Primary School, where he further donated Ksh.2.3 Million for further development projects.
On 14th January, he visited another 6 schools, including; Gathaithi Upper Primary School. Karaganda Primary School, Kiyu Primary School, Kagaa Secondary School, Mirichu Primary School, and Githagara Primary School.
Kiharu Constituency boasts the largest number of renovated schools, with some institutions having all their classrooms fitted with the floor, tiles that greatly improve the learner’s environment.
Ndindi further runs the largest constituency-based bursary program for university students in Muranga County. He is an economics graduate from Kenyatta Univeristy, where he has been feted as an alumnus of the year and an exemplary entrepreneur.
